5 Ways to Overcome Writer's Block
|
|
Half way through your article marketing campaign and run out of ideas? We all suffer from writer's block at one time or another which can be extremely frustrating. But the good news is that it's easy to cure. Here are just five simple exercises you can do to get those creative juices flowing again.
1. Keep a journal with you at all times
Ideas for articles can be generated at the strangest times. You might be out playing ball with your kids at the park and something catches your eye, or you might be watching your favourite programme on television and see an advert that inspires you, you might even witness something at work that gets your imagination running wild. Don't miss out on these moments of inspriation; keep a pen and a notepad or a journal in your bag at all times so that you can write down your thoughts before they disappear.
2. Relax and think about something else
The longer you sit there staring at a blank screen or sheet of paper the more frustrated you will become and the less likely the ideas are to start flowing. Go for a walk around the block, read the newspaper or a book, bake a cake. It doesn't matter what you do just get away from the screen for at least 15 minutes to help you get back into the right frame of mind.
3. Make your workspace inspiring
You need to feel relaxed at your workspace so that you are in the right frame of mind to write. Grab a stash of magazines that were written for your niche and cut out headlines and images. Paste them onto a cork board to make an inspiration board and then pin it above your desk. Use images from your niche to help your imagination run wild.
4. Think about music
Some people find it easier to write if there is music playing in the background, others prefer silence. See what works for you. You might find some quiet music drowns out any other distracting background noise and helps you focus on the task at hand.
5. Take a break
I don't just mean a ten minute break, I mean a real break. Shut down your PC, switch off your phone and leave town for a few days. Spend quality time with your family. Do anything but try to work. Everyone hits the wall at some point and when you do it's best to just walk away and take some time out to recharge those batteries. When you come back to work feeling refreshed and re-energised you will be twice as productive and make up for any 'lost time' in no time.
