7 Tips To Better Golf
|
|
In the beginning golf is ordinarily easier and we have a tendency to learn faster making big strides forward with our game. This is why it is essential to start correctly as any bad habits you may have were probably ingrained when taking up golf. Fortunately we can right these mistakes by receiving professional training with plenty of practice and hard work. These days qualified professional information can be found from your resident golf pro to online websites where you will obtain all the answers you want. There are 7 tips to better golf provided here.
1. Of fundamental importance in golf is your alignment. Not being able to hit the ball to your target is going to be a big setback if you want to improve. Always aim the club-face to start with before taking your stance, then set yourself up parallel to the club-face to target line. Try to see in your mind's eye a railway line with your toes touching one side of the track and the ball to target line being on the other.
2. Trying to steer clear of trouble from the tee is always a first-rate strategic ploy. Use the teeing area to your benefit by teeing up the ball on the same side as the trouble and then you can aim away from it. By doing this you will not have to take as many penalty drops or have to reload from the tee for being out of bounds, which will help keep your score as low as possible.
3. Maintain a steady head position throughout the golf swing. This will lead to more consistency producing better golf shots with a crisper strike. It is important to remember I said to keep the head position STILL ... I did not say DOWN !!. If you want to stifle any likelihood of a good swing then keeping your head down will do it. The correct position for your head is achieved by lifting your chin so the back of your neck runs in a straight line down your spine, as this will make room for your shoulders to turn correctly and give you a better posture and balance.
4. Reading the green properly is a valuable asset to have. You should spend a great deal of time trying to master this aspect of golf as nearly half your game is spent on, or around the green. As well as the usual contours of a golf green you will also find that a golf ball will normally roll away from a hill and towards a water source. So keep this in mind and adjust as necessary. When you have read the green and decided the path your ball will take, do not change your mind. Be positive in relation to your read, then go ahead and boldly execute your stroke.
5. The grain of the green is another essential aspect to deliberate too as it will effect the roll of the ball. As you stand behind the ball if the grass looks shiny then the grain is running away from you and if it is dull then the grain of the grass is facing you. Putts with the grain will go quicker and travel further. Those against the grain go slower and for that reason less far.
6. In recent years there has been a switch to soft-spikes in golf shoes, and even though this has helped with wear and tear on the greens they do tend to get clogged with grass so make sure you use a tee or pitchmark repairer to clean them as you go. This is one small part of your golf that most people forget, but it is very important to maintain your balance and not lose your footing during the golf swing, and even when walking on the golf course.
7. Check your golf club grips frequently as they can become worn and dirty through use. You should get a bucket or basin of warm water, after that add some washing up liquid and give your golf grips a good scrubbing to get rid of the dirt. Then use an old towel to dry them. I am sure you will be astounded in the change this makes to the grip and how much better they feel, giving you a lot more control when swinging the club. Your only relationship to the golf club is through your hands so it is vital your golf grips are in good order. If they are however in a bad state after a good scrub, then get them replaced as quickly as you can.
These are just a few guidelines that will help any standard of golfer improve his game. I look forward to speaking again soon. Have a great time on the Links.
