The road of life is not always covered with rose petals. All of us at some stage go through a period in our lives where we just can't see the sense of things any more. A period where we doubt the reason for our own existence. Whenever a time like this hits me, I try to search for something that will target="_blank" inspire me, something that will let me understand the underlying sense of all things.
Something that never fails to target="_blank" inspire me is a beautiful sunrise. To get up early, when the streets are still quiet and then watch the dawn of a brand new day. Watching the sun paint the mountaintops red before its rays move down to the city streets in some primal way makes me realize that this creation is much bigger than me and my problems. That I have a choice to be part of a an unfolding creation or succumb to my worries and become insignificant.
A sunset has a similar effect on me. When I watch the red sun drop into the ocean and see the sky turn into so many different colors, it makes me realize once again that I am watching a reality unfold that is far beyond my comprehension. It makes me proud to be part of something so huge and to understand that I might be small, but I do have a purpose in the universe.
There are few things that can inspire one like a beautiful poem. A truly great poet has a way to say things that go beyond words. He creates a picture that can portray the deepest feelings that all of us experience but are unable to put into words.
Then there are the deeds of pure unselfish love that can inspire any human being to become greater than his own weaknesses. When you read about the generosity and kindness of people like Gandhi and Mother Theresa, you suddenly understand that all of us have the ability to give love like this to our fellow human beings.
To watch the innocence with which a child can trust you, the abandon with which he can live every moment as if there is no past or future, is to find something of the true purpose of life again. In some way it makes you understand that the future is still an empty book for all of us, a clean slate on which we are yet to write.
There are so much more than inspire me, but all these things have a common denominator: they make me believe in my own greatness, in my ability to make a difference to the world and its problems and to one day leave the world just a little bit better than I found it.
