|
|
Aromatherapy candle making has become quite the popular hobby. You can get into aromatherapy candle making for candles to keep for yourself or to give out as gifts to your family and friends. Maybe you even want to open your own candle making business but no matter what your plans may be, you will need to learn how to make these candles first. There are only a few easy steps involved, the first being to gather together all your supplies.
As you gain more experience and understand how to make candles, you can start to mix and match your recipes but for the first while it is probably better to stick to making more basic candles. The container candles are really easy to make. You will need to have wicks, wax, containers and some fragrance as your most basic and general supplies. Gel candles are the newest version and tend to be the most popular, not to mention the easiest to make.
The results are always going to turn out better when using fragrance if you use the gel candles. Always be strategic when choosing your fragrances because each has its own very different purpose. In aromatherapy oils like lavender are used to relieve stress and promote relaxation, with a sweet and subtle aroma. Other oils like jasmine and lemon are used to energize and refresh.
You always have to consider what you want to get out of a candle and this will help you figure out which fragrance to use. To get started you want to start by cutting up the gel and putting it into a pot over medium heat then add in the fragrance. Using a double boiler is usually best but even if you have some extra pots around that you do not mind messing up that will work fine too. The temperature used when making candles should never be more than 180 degrees so always keep your eye on the heat during the heating process.
Everything should melt and combine together nicely and once you have done that you put the wick in your container and pour in the liquid mixture. The wick cannot get wet so keep it held out of the way while you are pouring. This is important because if it is not held up until the mixture has dried completely it will get wet and you will not be able to light and use it afterwards. This is the basic method of making aromatherapy candles and with a little practice you will get the hang of it in no time at all.
