A List Of Complex Carbohydrates Will Show You Healthy, Satisfying Foods.

If you are trying to improve your health through a healthy diet then it is essential that you learn which foods are good carbohydrates. They are full of nutrients and very good for you. Your body needs carbs to function properly but ones which are healthy and not full of sugar. Cutting out refined carbohydrates is important but you will need to replace them with unrefined or complex ones. A list of complex carbohydrates is essential for learning how to eat healthily.

There are several names to look out for when searching for complex carbs; whole grains, whole foods, unrefined carbohydrates, high glycaemic index carbohydrates and natural carbohydrates. They do not all mean exactly the same thing as the term complex carbohydrates but when you are reading the literature these phrases will point you toward the right kind of foods.

Simple carbohydrates are found in highly processed foods such as white bread, cookies, pizza and cakes. These foods have low nutritional value and are high in sugar. Complex carbs have not been processed at all or very little so that they still contain essential nutrients, whole wheat pasta or whole grain bread fall into this second category. They have been processed but not a lot and so your body can digest and use the nutrients mush more effectively.

It is not true that all carbs are bad for you in fact they are an essential part of a healthy, balanced diet. Unrefined carbohydrates contain all the nutrients which your body needs to process them and are satisfying foods which will leave you feeling fuller for longer.

When looking for carbohydrates which are considered complex look for foods which are unprocessed and in their natural state. These include things such as chickpeas, brown rice, oats, lentils, pearl barley, cornmeal, and wholegrain cereals. There are also some processed foods which are classed as complex carbohydrates such as whole meal or multigrain bread and whole wheat pasta. There are also many fruits and vegetables which you can eat if you are trying to eat more healthily; spinach, lettuce, radish, apricots and prunes to name a few.

The list of complex carbohydrates includes many foods which are healthy and satisfying. They are much better for you than simple carbohydrates.
